Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s commitment to hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, stating that the country is preparing with “full strength” to secure the prestigious global sporting event. Speaking virtually at the inaugural ceremony of the 72nd National Volleyball Championship in Varanasi, Modi highlighted the nation’s growing capabilities in organising major international competitions.

“India has successfully hosted events like the FIFA U‑17 World Cup and the Men’s Hockey World Cup, which have strengthened our infrastructure and operational expertise,” Modi said. “We are ready to take the next step and showcase our ability to host the Olympics with excellence.”

The Prime Minister emphasised that hosting the Olympics would not only enhance India’s global standing but also boost sports culture and opportunities for athletes nationwide. “Providing world-class facilities and support to our athletes is a priority, and staging the Olympics at home will inspire generations to come,” he added.

Officials noted that India’s preparations include engaging with the International Olympic Committee’s Future Host Commission and upgrading infrastructure to meet international standards. The government’s broader focus on sports development — including the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games — is seen as a stepping stone toward the Olympic bid.

While the competition to host the 2036 Games will be fierce, Modi expressed confidence in India’s track record. “With meticulous planning and strong governance, we can demonstrate that India is a credible and capable host,” he said.
