Facebook Rolls Out AI-Driven Animated Profile Photos and Enhanced Text Post Backgrounds

Facebook has unveiled a set of new artificial intelligence–powered features aimed at making user profiles and posts more visually engaging and creative. The latest update allows users to transform static profile pictures into animated visuals and enhance text-only posts with dynamic backgrounds, reflecting Meta’s broader push to integrate AI tools into everyday social media use.

One of the key additions is the option to animate profile photos. With this feature, users can select an existing picture or upload a new one and apply AI-generated motion effects. These animations can show subtle gestures or playful movements, adding a lively touch to profile displays across the platform. Facebook has indicated that the tool works best with clear, front-facing photos of a single person, and more animation styles are expected to be introduced in future updates.

Alongside animated profile photos, Facebook has also expanded creative options for Stories and Memories through an AI-based restyling feature. This tool enables users to alter the visual tone of their photos by applying preset styles or AI prompts. Images can be given artistic looks, enhanced lighting effects, or entirely new backgrounds, allowing people to refresh older memories or customise new Stories without relying on third-party editing apps.

Another notable upgrade focuses on text posts. Users can now choose animated or themed backgrounds while sharing text-only updates. These backgrounds range from subtle motion effects to colourful designs, helping text posts stand out in crowded feeds. Facebook plans to add more background options over time, including designs tied to seasons, festivals and trending themes. The new features are part of Meta’s ongoing effort to modernise Facebook and encourage greater user engagement.
