Following intelligence reports indicating a potential terror plot by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to target popular religious and historical sites in Delhi, security services have issued a high alert in the nation’s capital.
According to sources, terrorists are purportedly preparing an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in and around sensitive sites, particularly those close to the Red Fort, and specific intelligence inputs suggested that a temple in the Chandni Chowk region could be one of the possible targets. Although officials stated that the information is still being verified, the suspected plot is being connected to an attempt by the terror group to exact revenge for the February 6 explosion at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.
All temples in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk neighborhood of Old Delhi have increased security in response to the terror alert. To ensure constant security, paramilitary forces have been sent in to patrol the temple grounds both on the ground and from higher altitudes. In order to control mobility, carry out inspections, and guarantee increased security in and around places of worship, teams of Delhi Police have also been stationed across the area.
Nearly three months have passed since the vehicle bombing outside Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which was one of the capital’s bloodiest terror attacks in recent memory. An explosives-laden Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort Metro Station caused the explosion, which burned several surrounding cars and left at least 12 people dead and over 20 injured. The usage of explosives based on ammonium nitrate in the explosion was later verified by investigators. The driver of the car was identified by the investigating authorities as Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar Un Nabi, a physician connected to Al-Falah University in Faridabad Investigators connected him to a larger terror group that operated out of nearby Haryana after DNA analysis of human remains found in the wreckage verified his presence inside the car at the time of the blast. The explosion happened hours after security forces found about 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad and detained important module members, including associates named Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adil Rather, according to investigators quoted in television sources.
