Rinku Singh Set to Rejoin India Squad After Father’s Health Scare Ahead of Zimbabwe Clash

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 25th February 2026

India batter Rinku Singh is expected to rejoin the national squad ahead of their crucial Super 8 encounter against the Zimbabwe national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after briefly returning home due to a family medical emergency.

Rinku had left the team camp in Chennai following news that his father, Khanchand Singh, was in critical condition. Reports indicated that his father, who has been battling a serious illness, was hospitalised after his health worsened, prompting the 28-year-old to rush back to be with his family. His sudden departure raised uncertainty over his availability for India’s must-win fixture.

India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak later confirmed that Rinku is set to return to the squad and is expected to be available for selection. The team management remains hopeful that he will be mentally and physically prepared for the high-stakes match.

Rinku has featured in all of India’s matches so far in the tournament, though he has not made a significant impact with the bat. Despite modest returns, his role as a finisher in the lower middle order remains important to the team’s balance.

India, the defending champions, are under pressure to deliver a strong performance after a setback in their opening Super 8 game. Rinku’s return provides a timely boost as the team looks to keep its semi-final hopes alive in the tournament’s decisive phase.
