South Africa strengthened their march towards the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding nine-wicket victory over West Indies in the Super 8 stage. The emphatic win ensured they maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament and consolidated their position at the top of the Group 1 points table.

Chasing a competitive target of 176, South Africa delivered a clinical batting performance to seal the match with 23 balls to spare. Skipper Aiden Markram led from the front with a fluent unbeaten 82, anchoring the innings with composure and authority. He found solid support from Ryan Rickelton as the pair dismantled the West Indian bowling attack with calculated aggression and smart stroke play. The chase never appeared in doubt once the Proteas settled into rhythm.

Earlier, West Indies had posted 176 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite flashes of attacking intent, they struggled to build sustained partnerships against a disciplined South African bowling unit that kept the scoring in check during crucial phases of the innings.

With two wins from two matches in the Super 8 stage, South Africa sit comfortably at the top of the standings with four points and a strong net run rate. West Indies, who have one win and one loss, remain in contention but face mounting pressure in their remaining fixtures.

India and Zimbabwe are yet to open their accounts in the Super 8s, having suffered defeats in their opening games. As the race to the semi-finals intensifies, South Africa appear firmly in control, while the battle for the remaining qualification spot promises a thrilling finish.
