India Israel relations strenghted with PM visit

During his two-day state visit to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Thursday. The two leaders talked about measures to improve people-to-people relationships between Israel and India, deepen strategic cooperation, and fortify bilateral relations. PM Modi arrived in Tel Aviv, the country’s capital, on Wednesday to begin a two-day tour. He made his first official visit to Israel in 2017, and this is his second trip there.

PM Modi said, “I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to meet you on several occasions in different places before. I have heard the clarity of your thoughts and seen your respect and regard for India, and for that I am truly appreciative”.

“We look forward to welcoming you to India, and I would like to extend a special invitation for you to visit. I would also request that when you come, you not limit your visit to Delhi alone, but take out more time to visit other parts of India as well.” he added.

After speaking with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and interacting with Indian-Jewish community members, Modi is scheduled to return to Delhi on Thursday night.

Following delegation-level discussions, PM Modi and Netanyahu will exchange memorandums of understanding and press releases. Netanyahu’s office reportedly stated that the two leaders would sign numerous agreements pertaining to political, security, and economic cooperation, according to an AP report.

Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament when he spoke before a Special Plenary of the Knesset on Wednesday. Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana gave Modi a formal greeting upon his arrival. Speaker Ohana, Leader of the Opposition Yair Lapid, and Netanyahu spoke to the Plenary before to his speech, expressing broad bipartisan support for India-Israel relations.

In the Knesset, Modi declared that India wholeheartedly supported the Gaza Peace project, which he claimed had the potential of “just and durable” peace, adding that combating terrorism needs persistent and coordinated global action because terrorism anywhere undermines peace everywhere. In a 32-minute speech to Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, the PM also praised technological and defense ties, emphasized that the relationship between the two nations was written in “blood and sacrifice,” and said that the India-Israel free trade agreement under negotiation will unlock the vast untapped potential of their bilateral trade relationship.

Following delegation-level discussions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India and Israel are anticipated to sign a number of agreements covering diplomatic, security, and economic cooperation, the Israeli Prime Minister’s official account stated on Thursday. India and Israel will soon finalize a mutually beneficial free trade agreement, according to Prime Minister Modi. According to Modi, India and Israel would continue their cooperative development, manufacturing, and technology transfer in the field of defense.

 In a post on X, PM Modi said, “a memorable performance of the song ‘I Love My India’ by a remarkable ensemble of Divyang artists, bringing together Indian-origin Jews and Israeli citizens. This beautifully celebrates the shared heritage and enduring bonds between India and Israel!”
