Rinku Singh Rushes Home After Father’s Demise Following Battle With Liver Cancer

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 27th February 2026

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, as his father passed away after a prolonged fight with liver cancer. The tragedy struck while the national team was preparing for crucial Super Eight fixtures, casting a shadow over India’s campaign and drawing widespread sympathy from the cricketing fraternity.

Rinku’s father had been undergoing treatment for advanced-stage liver cancer for several months. His condition worsened earlier this week, prompting the team management to allow the left-handed batter to leave the squad’s camp in Chennai and be with his family. Rinku immediately flew to his hometown to spend time with his ailing father during the critical phase of his illness. Despite the emotional strain, he later rejoined the Indian squad once his father’s condition showed brief stability.

However, the respite proved short-lived. On Friday morning, Rinku received the devastating news of his father’s demise. He was granted immediate permission to leave the team again and returned home to attend the last rites and support his grieving family. The Indian team management and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed their condolences and assured the player of full support during this difficult period. The loss has deeply moved teammates and former cricketers, many of whom took to social media to extend their sympathies.
