A heated exchange unfolded in the Lok Sabha after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi interrupted an ongoing debate, accusing the government of repeatedly preventing Opposition members from speaking in Parliament.

The incident occurred during a discussion related to a motion moved by Opposition parties seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla. As the debate intensified, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad criticised the Opposition’s move and urged Gandhi to be cautious with his remarks, particularly when addressing matters linked to national security.

During the proceedings, Gandhi rose to intervene, arguing that Opposition MPs were not being given a fair opportunity to express their views. He said Parliament belongs to the entire country and should function as a platform where all elected representatives can participate freely in discussions. According to him, the Opposition was repeatedly interrupted whenever it tried to raise important issues.

His intervention led to loud protests and exchanges between members of the ruling party and the Opposition benches. The disruption briefly stalled the debate before the presiding chair allowed Gandhi to present his point.

Opposition leaders have also accused the Speaker of acting in a partisan manner. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi claimed that Gandhi had been stopped several times while attempting to raise concerns in the House, alleging that Opposition voices were being curtailed during key discussions.

The government, however, dismissed these allegations. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticised Gandhi’s claims and accused him of frequently missing parliamentary debates while later alleging that he had not been allowed to speak.
