The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case, offering him temporary protection from imprisonment. The decision comes as a significant respite for the actor, who had been facing legal action over non-payment in a financial dispute linked to a film project.
The case revolves around dishonoured cheques issued by Yadav, reportedly involving a substantial sum of money. Earlier, a trial court had convicted the actor and directed him to surrender after he failed to comply with repayment obligations and settlement terms. Following repeated delays and non-compliance, legal action intensified, raising the possibility of imprisonment.
During the latest hearing, the High Court took into account submissions indicating that the actor had deposited a portion of the outstanding amount. Considering this partial compliance, the court decided to suspend the sentence for the time being and granted interim bail. This means Yadav will not be sent to jail immediately, subject to certain conditions laid down by the court.
The court has directed the actor to continue making payments and strictly adhere to the agreed financial commitments. It also instructed him to remain present during future hearings as the matter is still under judicial consideration. The relief, therefore, is conditional and dependent on his compliance with the court’s directions.
The cheque bounce case has been ongoing for several years, stemming from a loan dispute tied to a film production. Authorities have stated that failure to honour financial commitments and court assurances led to the escalation of the case.
