Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of J&K, encouraged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration on Friday to use ties with other nations to halt the war that the US and Israel have forced on Iran, stressing that doing so is essential for the benefit of humanity.
Speaking inside the Legislative Assembly, Abdullah said that anyone with a conscience will speak out against the illegitimate and unjust war. He called it a serious injustice and vehemently condemned the deaths of Ayatollah Khamenei’s family members and acquaintances during the combined US-Israeli operation.
“The targeting of schools and children is unacceptable,” Abdullah said, questioning the purpose of war and suggesting that even US President Donald Trump may not understand the reasons behind it.
“During morning hours Trump talks about regime change and in the evening talks about oil prices,” said Abdullah.
Abdullah’s remarks followed a commotion in the Assembly as lawmakers from the National Conference, PDP, and Congress demanded that a resolution be passed in protest of the US and Israel’s targeting of Iran.
However, BJP lawmakers opposed, claiming that the Assembly was not the appropriate forum and that foreign policy was the purview of the national government. Abdullah took aim at the BJP lawmakers, saying that while some would contend that the problem doesn’t directly harm the area, everyone is affected by the war.
To support his claims, he cited instances of students becoming stranded in Iran due to the conflict and lengthy lines for LPG cylinders. “I condemn the war and express condolences to the victims’ families. I request PM Modi to use his good offices to stop this war, benefiting humanity. If our country can play a role in saving humanity, there’s no better deed,” he said.
