KKR Miss Key Spin Duo in Crucial Clash Against PBKS

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 6th April 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders were dealt a significant blow during their IPL 2026 encounter against Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens, as they fielded a side without both Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy for the first time in seven years.

The absence of the experienced spin duo came as a major setback for the team. Captain Ajinkya Rahane revealed that Chakravarthy had suffered an injury while attempting a catch in the previous match, ruling him out of the contest. Narine, meanwhile, missed the game due to illness, further weakening KKR’s bowling attack.

Known for their dominance in spin-friendly home conditions, KKR have long relied on Narine and Chakravarthy to control the middle overs and pick crucial wickets. Their unavailability forced the team to alter its strategy and opt for a more pace-oriented combination, bringing in players like Navdeep Saini and Rovman Powell.

The timing of this disruption is critical, with KKR still searching for their first win of the season. The absence of their key spinners not only affects wicket-taking ability but also reduces their control during crucial phases of the game. As the tournament progresses, KKR will be hoping for a swift return of both players to stabilise their campaign.
