David Warner Charged With Drunk Driving, Set to Appear in Australian Court

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 7th April 2026

Former Australia cricketer David Warner has been charged with drunk driving following an incident in Sydney, even as he continues to feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. The incident reportedly occurred in Maroubra, where Warner was stopped by police during a routine breath testing operation. Officials said the cricketer attempted to halt his vehicle before reaching the testing point, which led officers to approach him. A breathalyser test conducted at the scene returned a positive result, after which he was taken to a police station for further checks.

Authorities confirmed that his blood alcohol level was recorded above the legal limit, leading to formal charges being filed against him. He has since been issued a notice to appear before a local court in Australia next month to face the charges. Despite the legal setback, Warner has returned to Pakistan and is currently participating in the ongoing PSL season, where he is leading the Karachi Kings franchise. His involvement in the tournament is expected to continue for now, although his court appearance could affect his schedule depending on further developments.

The court has directed Warner to appear in May, where the matter will be taken up for hearing. While no immediate restrictions have been placed on his travel or professional commitments, the case has attracted attention given his high-profile status in international cricket. Warner, who retired from international cricket in 2024, remains active in franchise leagues across the globe. Known for his aggressive batting style and leadership skills, he continues to be a prominent figure in T20 competitions.
