Bangladesh Cricket Board Dissolved; Tamim Iqbal to Head Interim Committee

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 7th April 2026

In a significant administrative overhaul, the Bangladesh government has dissolved the cricket board led by Aminul Islam and appointed former national captain Tamim Iqbal to head an interim panel. The move was carried out by the National Sports Council (NSC) following concerns over governance issues and alleged irregularities in the board’s functioning, including its election process. Officials said the decision was aimed at restoring transparency and stability within Bangladesh cricket administration.

Tamim Iqbal will lead an 11-member ad-hoc committee tasked with managing the board’s affairs temporarily. The panel has been given the responsibility of overseeing day-to-day operations and conducting fresh elections within a limited timeframe, expected to be around three months. The leadership shake-up also comes in the wake of controversy surrounding Bangladesh’s absence from the recent ICC T20 World Cup, which drew widespread criticism of the previous administration. The developments intensified scrutiny on the board, ultimately leading to government intervention.

Sources indicated that internal disagreements and resignations had weakened the functioning of the board, prompting authorities to step in and initiate structural changes. The dissolution marks a major turning point for cricket governance in the country.

Tamim’s appointment is seen as a fresh start, with expectations that his experience and stature in Bangladesh cricket will help restore confidence among players and stakeholders. The interim committee is expected to focus on improving governance practices and ensuring smooth operations during the transition period. With international fixtures approaching, the newly formed panel faces the immediate challenge of stabilising the system while preparing the groundwork for a more accountable and transparent administration.
