Howrah, West Bengal : A roadshow led by Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, turned tense on Wednesday evening in the Bali Assembly constituency of Howrah after alleged Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters raised slogans during the rally.
The roadshow was organised in support of BJP candidate Sanjay Singh. According to reports, TMC workers gathered along the route, waving party flags and shouting “Jai Bangla” as Adhikari’s convoy passed through the area.

The situation briefly escalated when Adhikari reacted strongly, shouting “chor, chor” at the protesters. He also appeared ready to step down from his campaign vehicle to confront the crowd. However, his security personnel intervened in time and prevented him from getting down, avoiding further escalation.
The incident highlights the rising political tension in the state ahead of the Assembly elections. Adhikari is contesting from two important constituencies this time. Adhikari is challenging TMC heavyweights in both constituencies. In Nandigram, he is defending his seat against TMC's Pabitra Kar, while in Bhabanipur, he is up against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The Bhabanipur contest is being closely watched, as it marks another major political battle between Mamta Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari, whose rivalry has significantly shaped the political landscape of Bengal.
With polling scheduled on April 23 and 29, and counting on May 4, election campaigning in the state is expected to intensify further in the coming days.
