Mohanpur, West Midnapore : Tollywood actor and Trinamool Congress MP Dev drew massive crowds in Mohanpur on Thursday as he campaigned in support of Manik Maity, the party’s candidate of TMC for the Dantan Assembly seat. His presence turned the area into a festive ground, with thousands of supporters lining both sides of the road despite the scorching Baishakh afternoon.
The ruling party’s roadshow, organised from Gomunda to Bodai in Mohanpur in West Midnapore, witnessed an overwhelming turnout as residents gathered for a glimpse of the popular actor-politician, widely regarded by many as a “son of the soil.” Dev arrived in a decorated open-top vehicle, triggering loud cheers, conch shell sounds and party slogans from enthusiastic supporters.
People across all age groups, from children to the elderly, thronged the route, creating a challenge for police and security personnel deployed to manage the swelling crowd. The excitement reached its peak when Dev stood atop the bonnet of the moving vehicle and waved to supporters in a dramatic, film-star style, drawing thunderous applause from the roadside crowd.
During the campaign, Dev appealed to voters to support Trinamool candidate Manik Maity and cast their ballots for the party’s “Twin Flowers” symbol. Referring to the development carried out in the region, he urged the electorate to strengthen Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s hands to ensure the continuation of development work.
Every speech delivered by the actor-MP was met with enthusiastic applause, underlining his strong appeal among the local electorate. Party workers said his presence had significantly boosted the morale of Trinamool supporters in the area at a crucial stage of the election campaign. Even after the roadshow covered a considerable distance, public enthusiasm remained undiminished. Many in the crowd appeared eager to greet, touch or photograph their favourite screen idol. Dev, visibly moved by the affection shown by the public, acknowledged the crowd with smiles and waves before leaving for his next campaign stop.
Coincidentally, BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty had also campaigned in the same locality in support of his party’s candidate. However, local residents were reportedly disappointed after he cut short his roadshow and left midway. In contrast, Dev’s full participation in the campaign and his direct engagement with the public left many in Mohanpur pleased and impressed.
