Archana Puran Singh’s relationship with success has been everything but simple for an actor who has worked in Indian film for more than forty years. The seasoned actress disclosed in a recent interview how her tremendously successful television run unintentionally became a barrier to the very industry she had built her reputation on.

After replacing Navjot Singh Sidhu on the show in 2019, Archana immediately won over fans. She didn’t have much time for cinematic ventures, though, because of the rigorous shooting schedule. She revealed that because of her broadcast schedule, she had to decline several offers over the years, including one for an international production that would have required her to be away for about a month.

Reflecting on how she is perceived in the industry, Archana expressed disappointment over being typecast. “No matter how much I try, I’m not being able to convince filmmakers. Nobody is offering me roles. They aren’t very convinced that I’m an actor. They still think that I’m somebody who sits on a chair and laughs,” she said.

In Toaster, Archana Puran Singh just joined Rajkummar Rao, who has also become the project’s producer, in a quirky but significant part. She revealed that he saw her work in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which was their first professional collaboration, and that’s how the movie came to her.

Archana added that she hopes this endeavor opens doors to other opportunities in the future and leads to further films, explaining that their previous relationship was crucial to her casting in Toaster. She believes her reputation as a humorous personality has eclipsed her acting versatility despite having a lengthy and diverse career. Before moving into supporting parts, Archana made a big impression in Jalwa, when she starred opposite Naseeruddin Shah. Over the years, she made appearances in well-known movies like Bol Bachchan, De Dana Dan, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, frequently in humorous roles that strengthened her on-screen presence.
