Indian Coast Guard Seizes 13,320 Kg Areca Nuts, Apprehends Boat in Sundarbans

In a swift and well-coordinated operation, the Indian Coast Guard apprehended an Indian Fishing Boat, Shiv Shankar, in the Sundarbans for its involvement in the illicit transport of areca nuts.

Authorities seized a total of 13,320 kilograms of contraband during the operation. Officials confirmed that the vessel was engaged in illegal smuggling activities, marking the second such interception by the Coast Guard within a week.

The successful operation highlights heightened surveillance, operational efficiency, and the force’s continued commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime domain and protecting economic interests.

Following the apprehension, both the vessel and the seized goods have been handed over to the Customs Prevention and Intelligence Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The action underscores ongoing efforts by maritime security agencies to curb smuggling and ensure stricter enforcement along sensitive coastal regions.
