Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued an open letter to voters in West Bengal, making a final appeal for support as campaigning for the Assembly elections nears its conclusion.
In his message, Modi urged citizens to back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), presenting the party as a vehicle for change and development in the state. He emphasised that the electorate has a crucial opportunity to shape the future of West Bengal, calling for a decisive mandate to bring progress and stability.
The Prime Minister highlighted concerns related to law and order, governance, and economic growth, suggesting that the state requires a new direction. He appealed to voters to support what he described as a development-oriented model, promising improved infrastructure, better opportunities, and a safer environment for citizens.
At the same time, the letter included criticism of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), with Modi alleging that the state has faced challenges due to misgovernance. He claimed that West Bengal has not realised its full potential and argued that a change in leadership could help unlock growth and development.
The outreach is part of the BJP’s broader strategy to directly connect with voters in the final stages of the campaign. By communicating through a written appeal, Modi sought to reinforce the party’s key election themes while urging citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
The timing of the letter is significant, as it comes at a crucial juncture when political parties are intensifying efforts to sway undecided voters. With campaigning drawing to a close, such direct appeals are seen as an attempt to consolidate support and influence voter sentiment.
The BJP has consistently focused its campaign on issues such as governance, corruption, and security, while promising development-led growth. In contrast, the TMC has defended its record, highlighting welfare schemes and administrative achievements.
Political observers note that the Prime Minister’s letter reflects the high stakes of the election, with both parties making strong final pushes. As voting approaches, the appeal adds momentum to the BJP’s campaign in what remains a closely contested political battle in West Bengal.
