Mamata Banerjee Alleges BJP Attempting to ‘Rig’ Bengal Polls, Seeks EC Intervention

News Mania Desk/ 29th April 2026

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to “rig” the ongoing elections in the state, alleging that central forces were acting at the party’s behest.

Banerjee further claimed that individuals from outside West Bengal were being brought into certain constituencies to create disturbances and influence the polling process. Expressing concern over the situation, she urged the Election Commission of India to intervene immediately and ensure free and fair elections.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for strict monitoring of security personnel deployment and voter safety, stating that any attempt to disrupt the democratic process must be addressed promptly.

The BJP has not yet issued an official response to the allegations at the time of reporting.

Polling across several constituencies in West Bengal has witnessed high voter turnout, with tight security arrangements in place to maintain law and order.
