Hardik Pandya Admits Mumbai Indians Falling Short of Standards After Defeat

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 30th April 2026

Hardik Pandya has conceded that Mumbai Indians are not performing up to their established standards in the ongoing IPL 2026, following a disappointing loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Speaking after the high-scoring encounter, Pandya admitted that the team has failed to reflect the identity and consistency associated with the five-time champions. Despite posting an imposing total of over 240 runs, Mumbai Indians were unable to defend the target, with their bowling unit struggling under pressure.

The captain pointed to lapses in execution as a major factor behind the defeat. He highlighted that dropped catches and missed opportunities in the field allowed Sunrisers Hyderabad to stay in the chase and eventually secure victory. According to Pandya, such errors have repeatedly cost the team crucial moments in the tournament.

While addressing the team’s struggles, Pandya avoided singling out individual players, instead stressing that the responsibility lies with the entire squad. He acknowledged that the side has collectively underperformed and must improve across all departments to remain competitive.

The match also exposed concerns about balance within the team. Although the batting lineup delivered a strong performance, the inability of the bowlers to defend a large total raised questions about consistency and adaptability in high-pressure situations.

Pandya also spoke about the disappointment among fans, admitting that the team has not met expectations this season. He noted that it was difficult to witness supporters backing opposition players, underlining the need for improved performances to regain fan confidence.

With the league progressing, Mumbai Indians now face increasing pressure to turn their campaign around. Pandya expressed hope that the team can regroup quickly, but emphasised that significant improvements are required if they are to revive their fortunes in the tournament.
