India’s top military leadership on Wednesday issued a stern warning to Pakistan and terror groups operating across the border, asserting that any future attacks against India would invite a decisive and powerful response. The remarks came during commemorations marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, a major cross-border military operation carried out in May last year following the deadly terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

At a joint press conference held in Jaipur, senior officials from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force reiterated that India had adopted a new security doctrine that would not tolerate acts of terrorism originating from across the border. The military leaders described Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s counter-terror policy and said the armed forces remain fully prepared to respond to any future provocation.

Air Marshal A K Bharti stated that India’s response to terrorism had fundamentally changed after the operation. He said any “misadventure” against India would not go unanswered and warned that those responsible for terror attacks would face severe consequences. According to the Air Marshal, the operation demonstrated India’s growing military capability as well as its willingness to take proactive action against terror infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, days after a terror attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 civilians and security personnel. In retaliation, Indian armed forces conducted coordinated precision strikes on nine terror-linked targets located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes reportedly targeted training camps, logistics centres and launch pads used by militant organisations.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai said the military operation was not a one-time action but part of a continuing strategy aimed at dismantling terror networks threatening India’s security. He remarked that the mission was “not the end, but only the beginning” of a broader campaign against terrorism. The Army officer stressed that India would continue to monitor hostile activities closely and maintain operational readiness along its borders.

Vice Admiral AN Pramod highlighted the role played by long-range precision weapon systems during the operation. He said the strikes reflected India’s capability to counter threats despite what he termed Pakistan’s “nuclear blackmail.” According to the Navy officer, the success of the operation sent a strong strategic message about India’s military preparedness and ability to conduct coordinated tri-services missions.

The armed forces also outlined several major reforms and infrastructure upgrades introduced after Operation Sindoor. Officials said India had accelerated efforts to strengthen underground military facilities, modernise air defence systems and expand drone and counter-drone capabilities. Greater emphasis has also been placed on surveillance systems, intelligence coordination and rapid-response mechanisms to tackle evolving security threats.

Military officials noted that lessons learned during the operation had influenced planning and procurement decisions across all three services. Enhanced coordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force was described as one of the key achievements of the mission. Senior commanders said integrated warfare strategies and advanced technologies would play a central role in India’s future defence preparedness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the armed forces on the anniversary of the operation. In a message released by the government, the Prime Minister praised the courage, precision and professionalism displayed by the military personnel involved in the mission. He said Operation Sindoor reflected India’s determination to safeguard national security and protect its citizens from terrorism.

The anniversary events were attended by senior military officers, veterans and defence personnel across several locations in the country. Analysts view the strong statements made by India’s military leadership as a clear signal that the country intends to maintain a firm stance against cross-border terrorism and any attempts to destabilise national security.
