Amid intense political developments following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results, actor-politician Vijay is expected to meet Governor R. N. Ravi once again as uncertainty continues over the formation of the next government in the state. The developments come after supporters of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), staged demonstrations outside Lok Bhavan, urging the Governor to invite the party to form the government without further delay.
According to reports, TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly. However, the party fell short of the majority mark required to independently form the government. Since the declaration of results, Vijay has reportedly been holding a series of discussions with potential allies and smaller parties to gather the support needed to stake claim to power.
Supporters of TVK gathered outside Lok Bhavan carrying party flags and raising slogans in favour of Vijay. Protesters alleged that despite receiving the mandate to lead the state, TVK had not yet been invited by the Governor to form the government. Several supporters accused the administration of unnecessary delays and demanded immediate action to avoid political instability in the state.
The post-poll political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu has remained tense, with multiple parties closely monitoring the evolving numbers game. Reports indicate that TVK has reached out to parties such as the Congress, CPI, CPM and VCK in an effort to secure outside support. Political observers believe the backing of smaller parties could prove crucial in determining whether Vijay succeeds in forming the next government.
The issue has also triggered a wider political debate over the role of the Governor in situations involving a hung Assembly. While opposition leaders and TVK supporters have criticised the delay in inviting the largest party to form the government, constitutional experts have pointed out that the Governor has the authority to verify claims of majority support before taking a final decision.
Meanwhile, rival political parties, including the DMK and AIADMK, are also believed to be exploring possible strategies to prevent TVK from consolidating support. The uncertainty has fuelled speculation about potential alliances and last-minute negotiations among parties seeking to influence the government formation process.
Sources suggest Vijay may soon submit letters of support from allied parties during his next meeting with the Governor. If the numbers are accepted, TVK could cross the majority mark and formally stake claim to form the government. The coming days are expected to be crucial for Tamil Nadu politics as negotiations continue and all eyes remain on Raj Bhavan for the Governor’s final decision.
