The IPL 2026 playoff race has entered a crucial stage, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad moving closer to securing knockout berths, while Delhi Capitals remain on the brink of elimination. RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad have emerged as two of the strongest contenders for the playoffs after maintaining consistent performances throughout the tournament. Both teams currently occupy favourable positions in the points table and need only a few more victories to officially confirm qualification.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru strengthened their chances after a series of important wins, including a key victory over Mumbai Indians. The side has impressed with balanced performances in both batting and bowling departments, while their strong net run rate has further improved their position in the standings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have also gained momentum in the latter half of the tournament. Aggressive batting displays and disciplined bowling performances helped the team climb near the top of the table. Their recent victories have significantly boosted confidence within the squad as the league stage approaches its final phase.
Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings also remain in strong contention for playoff qualification. Punjab Kings suffered a setback against Delhi Capitals but continue to hold an advantage due to their overall points tally and remaining fixtures.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals face a difficult qualification scenario despite their recent win over Punjab Kings. The team must now win all remaining league matches to stay mathematically alive in the competition. Even if Delhi manages to secure maximum points from its remaining games, qualification will still depend on results involving rival teams and net run rate calculations.
Delhi’s campaign has been affected by inconsistent batting performances and crucial defeats earlier in the season. Several middle-order collapses and struggles against spin bowling have weakened their playoff hopes. Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians have already been eliminated from the tournament after failing to recover from poor starts to the season. With only a handful of league matches remaining, the race for the top four positions is expected to intensify further as teams battle for qualification ahead of the IPL 2026 knockout stage.
