Vijay Joins Demand to Abolish NEET as Tamil Nadu Renews Opposition

News Mania Desk/ 14th May 2026

Vijay has become the latest political leader in Tamil Nadu to demand the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, reviving a long-standing debate in the state over medical admissions and educational equity.
Tamil Nadu has consistently opposed NEET since its nationwide implementation, arguing that the exam disadvantages students from rural backgrounds, Tamil-medium schools, and economically weaker families. Political parties across ideological lines in the state—including the DMK and AIADMK—have often maintained that NEET undermines the state’s long-established medical admission system based primarily on Class 12 marks.
Critics in Tamil Nadu argue that the exam heavily favors students who can afford expensive private coaching, thereby widening social and economic inequalities. The issue has also gained emotional and political significance due to several reported student suicides allegedly linked to NEET-related pressure and failure.
Supporters of NEET, however, say the exam creates a uniform national standard for medical admissions and helps curb irregularities and capitation fees in private colleges.
Vijay’s remarks have added fresh momentum to the debate ahead of future political contests in Tamil Nadu, where opposition to NEET remains a highly sensitive and influential public issue.
