Delhi Police have arrested the driver and conductor of a private sleeper bus for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman inside the vehicle in northwest Delhi, an incident that has once again raised concerns over women’s safety in the capital.

According to police, the incident took place during the early hours of May 12 after the woman boarded the bus near Madhuban Chowk. Investigators said the bus travelled through areas including Pitampura, Rani Bagh, and Nangloi, where the alleged assault occurred. The woman later approached authorities, following which a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to rape and gang rape.

Police identified the accused as the bus driver, Raminder, and conductor, Umesh. Both men were arrested after the complaint was filed. Officials said one accused was detained immediately, while the second was traced later using CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs.

The bus involved in the case has been seized for forensic examination, and investigators have collected evidence from the vehicle. Authorities also recorded the survivor’s statement and conducted a medical examination as part of the probe.

Different accounts of the incident have emerged during the investigation. One police version stated that the woman was allegedly promised money before the assault, while another report cited the survivor saying she was dragged into the bus after asking a man for the time near the vehicle.

The case has triggered strong political reactions and public outrage, with renewed debates over safety measures in public and private transport systems across Delhi. Police said further investigation is underway.
