Filmmaker Karan Johar has addressed the speculation surrounding his recent Instagram activity after fans noticed that he had unfollowed several Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and designer Manish Malhotra. The unexpected move quickly sparked rumours of possible tensions within the film industry, with social media users debating whether the filmmaker had experienced a fallout with some of his closest associates.

However, Johar has now dismissed the rumours, explaining that the decision was simply part of a personal “digital detox.” According to reports, the filmmaker clarified that the unfollowing spree had nothing to do with personal conflicts or professional disagreements. Instead, he described it as an attempt to reduce online distractions and spend less time engaging with social media platforms.

The development attracted widespread attention because many of the celebrities Johar unfollowed have shared long-standing professional and personal ties with him. Shah Rukh Khan has worked with Johar on several successful films over the years, while Alia Bhatt is often considered one of the filmmaker’s closest protégés in Bollywood. The sudden changes to his following list therefore fuelled intense online speculation among fans.

Reports also noted that actress Priyanka Chopra continues to remain on Johar’s Instagram following list, further adding to discussions on social media. Despite the curiosity surrounding the matter, Johar’s explanation appears to have eased concerns about any major rift within the industry.

Fans and followers were quick to interpret the unfollowing spree as a sign of conflict before Johar publicly clarified his intentions. The filmmaker’s response has now shifted attention toward the increasing popularity of digital detox practices among celebrities seeking a break from the pressures of constant online engagement.
