Teacher Arrested in West Midnapore for S**ual Assault of Minor Girl; Police Track Suspect via Mobile Tower Location

West Midnapore : A teacher in West Midnapore Sabang area has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl studying in the 10th grade. The arrest was made possible through advanced investigation techniques, including tracking the suspect’s mobile phone tower location.

According to police reports, the 10th-grade student was allegedly called to a village under the Sabang Police Station jurisdiction on May 11, where the assault took place. The following day, May 12, the victim’s family filed an official complaint with the Sabang Police Station. The police immediately launched an investigation into the matter.

Initial inquiries produced several conflicting details, but the victim’s family received a phone call suggesting potential leads, which became a turning point in the case. Using Call Detail Records (CDRs) and “tower dumping” technology, authorities arrested six suspects believed to be linked to the crime.

During interrogation, Prasun Bera’s name surfaced as the primary accused. Further investigation revealed that he was attempting to evade arrest. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of West Midnapore District Police then started close surveillance by monitoring his mobile phone’s tower signals.

At around 2:00 PM on Wednesday, Prasun Bera was apprehended near Narayangarh Police Station. It was confirmed that he is employed as a teacher. The police have registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

West Midnapore District Superintendent of Police, Papia Sultana, assured that the investigation would be completed soon and promised stringent legal action against the accused. “We are committed to ensuring justice and that the culprits face strict punishment,” she said.
The police continue their efforts to thoroughly investigate the case and provide support to the victim’s family.
