India launched their preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on a positive note, securing a convincing 26-run victory over the West Indies in a warm-up encounter at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Bharti Fulmali emerged as the star with the bat, producing an unbeaten 56 off 40 deliveries to guide India to a competitive total of 179 for 8. Coming in after a brisk start from the opening pair, Fulmali anchored the innings with composure, striking six boundaries and a six to ensure India finished strongly despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Yastika Bhatia also played an important role with a steady 36, while Shafali Verma provided early momentum with a quickfire 29.

In reply, the West Indies made a promising start through Deandra Dottin, who top-scored with 49 runs. However, India’s spin attack gradually tightened its grip on the contest. Shreyanka Patil led the charge with an impressive spell of 4 for 36, dismantling the middle and lower order to derail the Caribbean chase. Radha Yadav complemented her brilliantly, claiming three wickets as the pair shared seven dismissals between them. The West Indies eventually finished on 153 for 8, falling 26 runs short of the target.

The match also provided valuable game time for several Indian players ahead of the marquee tournament. With captain Harmanpreet Kaur unavailable due to pre-tournament commitments and Deepti Sharma rested, other squad members seized the opportunity to make a strong impression.

India’s all-round display highlighted both batting depth and bowling versatility, offering encouraging signs as the team gears up for the challenges ahead in the Women’s T20 World Cup. The victory will undoubtedly boost confidence within the camp as the Women in Blue continue their quest for global success.
