She contested the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election as a BJP candidate from Shyampukur seat. She was elected MLA for the first time by defeating the heavyweight candidate of the ruling party by a margin of 14,633 votes in this hotly contested election.
Purnima Chakraborty was appointed as the minister of state after winning. She holds important responsibilities such as Information and Culture, Tourism and Broadcasting Department. Since assuming office, she has promised to work with full zeal for the development of the state.
She has repeatedly said in various interviews that he is following the lead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the path shown by state opposition leader Subvendu Adhikari. She mentioned that his main goal is to fulfill the trust and hope of the people of Shyampukur.
