Kolkata : Police from the Salboni station, supported by central security forces, carried out a major search operation early Saturday morning at the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee.

The police team arrived around 3:00 AM. After waiting outside for some time without any cooperation, they broke the locks to enter the house. The search lasted about 90 minutes but did not result in any seizure, with authorities reporting a nil list.

Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also came to the residence during the search.
The operation was aimed at finding Sumit Roy, Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant. This followed the interrogation of former MLA Sujoy Hazra, who was arrested in connection to a land scam case. Police traced Sumit Roy’s last mobile tower location to this house but he was not present when the search was conducted.

Abhishek Banerjee denied harboring anyone at his home. The Trinamool Congress strongly criticized the police action. Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose condemned the search, calling it “politically motivated” and part of “Operation Lotus,” alleging it is a BJP conspiracy to intimidate and mentally harass opposition leaders.
