Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have agreed to intensify efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, reaffirming their support for Kyiv and pledging to increase pressure on Russia through a combination of diplomatic, economic and strategic measures.
The commitment emerged from discussions at the G7 Summit in France, where the conflict in Ukraine remained one of the central topics on the agenda. The leaders emphasized that achieving a lasting peace requires continued international unity and sustained pressure on Moscow to engage in meaningful negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in summit discussions and urged partner nations to maintain strong backing for Ukraine as the war continues. He highlighted the need for additional military assistance, enhanced air defence capabilities and economic support to help the country withstand ongoing attacks and prepare for future challenges.
The G7 leaders expressed concern over the prolonged conflict and its impact on global security, energy markets and economic stability. They agreed that further measures may be necessary to reduce Russia’s capacity to finance military operations. Discussions included the possibility of expanding sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy, particularly those linked to energy exports and strategic industries.
U.S. President Donald Trump called for renewed efforts to secure a negotiated settlement, arguing that the conflict has imposed significant human and economic costs. While emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, he also supported maintaining pressure on Russia until tangible progress toward peace is achieved.
In a joint statement, the G7 reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The leaders pledged continued cooperation in providing financial aid, defence assistance and humanitarian support to the war-torn country.
The summit also explored ways to strengthen Ukraine’s long-term resilience, including support for reconstruction projects, energy infrastructure and economic recovery initiatives. Officials said these measures are intended to help the country recover while maintaining its ability to defend itself. While no immediate breakthrough in peace negotiations was announced, the summit signaled a determination among G7 nations to keep pressure on Russia and maintain support for Ukraine as efforts to end the war continue.
