Featuring a star-studded ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, the film revisits the turbulent period of India’s Partition and explores the human stories that emerged from one of the most defining moments in the subcontinent’s history.
The newly unveiled posters introduce audiences to the principal characters portrayed by Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol and Abhimanyu Singh. Set against the backdrop of 1947, the visuals highlight themes of courage, sacrifice, resilience and survival as communities grapple with the upheaval caused by the division of India and Pakistan.
Originally announced under the title Lahore 1947, the film has now been renamed Batwara 1947, a move that reflects its broader focus on the Partition and its impact on ordinary people. The first-look campaign emphasizes the emotional depth of the narrative, portraying individuals whose lives are transformed by violence, displacement and uncertainty.
Directed by veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, the project marks his long-awaited reunion with Sunny Deol after their successful collaborations in the past. The film is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions, with Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit backing the ambitious historical venture. Acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman has created the film’s music, while celebrated lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned the songs.
Adding further intrigue to the project, Abhimanyu Singh is set to play the main antagonist, setting the stage for a dramatic conflict. Scheduled for release during the Independence Day weekend in August 2026, Batwara 1947 is already generating significant buzz and is expected to be one of the biggest Hindi film releases of the year.
