A gastroenterologist has shared a simple homemade high-fibre snack bar recipe, encouraging people to replace ultra-processed snacks with healthier alternatives that support digestion and overall well-being. The recipe, posted by Dr. Saurabh Sethi, aims to help individuals increase their daily fibre intake using easily available ingredients.
Dr. Sethi, a California-based gastroenterologist with medical training from AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford, highlighted the importance of fibre in maintaining digestive health. He explained that fibre is a plant-based carbohydrate that plays a key role in supporting the gut microbiome, promoting regular bowel movements and improving overall digestive function. It also helps people stay full for longer, making it a useful addition to a balanced diet.
The snack bars are prepared using nutrient-rich ingredients such as oats, peanut butter, chia seeds, flaxseeds, blueberries and mixed nuts. These ingredients are combined to create a wholesome snack that is rich in fibre, healthy fats and essential nutrients while avoiding the excessive sugar and additives commonly found in packaged snack foods.
According to Dr. Sethi, many adults fail to consume the recommended amount of dietary fibre each day. Health guidelines suggest that adult men should aim for about 38 grams of fibre daily, while adult women should consume around 25 grams. However, modern eating habits and the widespread consumption of processed foods often result in lower fibre intake.
The doctor suggested that preparing healthy snacks at home can be an effective way to improve nutrition without compromising on taste or convenience. His recipe involves mixing the ingredients, shaping the mixture into bars and then chilling or baking them before slicing them into individual portions for easy consumption.
