According to authorities, a student accused of carrying out Friday’s tragic school shooting in Thailand shot and killed his grandparents at their house before assaulting his school near Bangkok. The attack claimed the lives of three teachers and three kids in addition to the shooter’s grandparents.
The young shooter, who was identified as a student at the school, died after turning the gun on himself, according to the police. According to Thai police, the gunman shot and killed his grandparents at their home before going to the school in Nonthaburi province, northwest of Bangkok, where he opened fire on teachers and children.
The motivation behind these attacks is still being looked at by the authorities. The gun that was used in the shooting, according to the police, was stolen from a student’s relative. Students at Debsirin Nonthaburi School fled the school as ambulances raced the injured to hospitals after the incident caused panic. Outside the school, teachers were spotted crying and giving each other hugs.
At first, an 18-year-old student told that he thot the sound of shooting was firecrackers. “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.” Several victims had gunshot wounds to their arms, backs, and chests, according to emergency personnel.
Teachers and students were among those murdered, according to Thailand’s education minister, Prasert Jantararuangtong. According to emergency responder Kiatikhun Verapongpradith, his team arrived at the school while the shooting was still going on.
He claimed that on one of the school’s top floors, rescuers discovered a male teacher dead. They discovered a female teacher with gunshot wounds to her arm and chest in a different room.
According to police, fifteen people were hurt, and two of them are still in critical condition, according to local broadcaster Channel 3. According to district officials, the school had 147 teachers and about 3,100 pupils in the 2025 school year. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he had instructed officials to offer support and offered his condolences to the families of the victims. Authorities were organising assistance for individuals impacted, according to Deputy Education Minister Akkharanan Kannakittinan.
The attack on Friday was Thailand’s second school shooting of the year. A 17-year-old killed a teacher, wounded a student, and temporarily held hostages at a public high school in southern Thailand in February after stealing a gun from the police. In the midst of increased military tensions and crises in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkiye have inked a cooperative defence accord, strengthening security cooperation.
