Launching a statewide legal aid platform for volunteers and supporters, the Cockroach Janta Party promises “no fees, ever.”

In an effort to protect its volunteers and supporters from violence and intimidation, the Cockroack Janta Party on Tuesday created a national legal aid platform. “CJP’s Legal Aid platform is now live. If you have faced harassment, intimidation, or violence while raising your voice for better education, reach out to us through our Legal Aid platform,” the organisation said in a post on X, while sharing the link to the website.

It assured volunteers and supporters that they would receive the “best possible legal help” and that the organization would assist them along the process. Ratna Singh, the head of CJP’s legal affairs department, also posted the news on social media, stating that the platform’s goal is to create a “nationwide legal support network.”

“Today, we are not just launching a website – we are building a nationwide legal support network so that no @Cockroachisback supporter or volunteer has to face a legal battle alone,” Singh said on X.

This follows the CJP’s announcement a few days ago that it would create a website that would link protestors to solicitors and track legal actions taken against them. On July 28, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and Rajya Sabha MP Kabil Sibal made the announcement.In addition to helping volunteers and supporters seek assistance, the portal allows advocates to register and provide legal aid. The initial step for those looking for advocates and legal aid would be to register on the website.

In addition, the portal offers a request form, email address, and emergency WhatsApp number in case volunteers or supporters are detained or arrested. It also informs users of their legal rights in the event of an arrest. There would be no charge for the legal assistance services offered.

According to the website, anyone looking for legal aid would just need to enter “minimal details” in order to log in and request assistance, after which they would be paired with a nearby verified advocate. After then, the users can share information and have private conversations with the attorney. Rajya Sabha MP Sibal announced ₹1 crore in legal aid for the website last month while presenting ideas on the website. He also asked Indian lawyers to contribute to the fund.

“They will create a website where lawyers willing to provide legal assistance can register their names, location and the kind of help they can offer,” Sibal had said.
