Following the floods, India is collaborating with the Nepali Army to locate missing tourists: Envoy

Following the terrible flash floods that struck Nepal earlier this week, the Indian embassy there is working nonstop to find and save missing citizens. India’s envoy to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, stated on Friday that the Indian embassy was “working with Nepal’s Army and several other agencies” to find visitors who had gone missing.

“We are communicating with the Nepalese army and sharing whatever information we have about missing Indians,” Srivastava said

Talking about the 21 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu who had been rescued on Thursday, he said, “They were brought to Kathmandu yesterday. Our first hope is that the group reaches Delhi first, and then they can go home from there.”

He further mentioned that on Thursday, 63 Indians employed on the Trishuli 1 power project were saved. Although he declined to speak further, the Indian envoy acknowledged that he had read about another lake burst in Nepal in the media.

“I don’t have much information on the incident,” he stated.

A barrier lake upstream of the Gyirong border port ruptured on Friday, according to Nepal, raising the possibility of floods once again. On the Tibetan side of the border, the barrier lake’s banks have collapsed.

“All security personnel, rescue workers, and the general public deployed in rescue and relief operations are requested to remain alert and immediately move to a safe location/report the incident,” Nepal police said in a post. Citing a significant possibility of more floods, China has also halted rescue efforts in Tibet.

On Wednesday, a glacial slide in Nepal caused fatal flash floods. The tragedy has claimed the lives of at least 472 people. There are still about 1,400 missing people, including hundreds of foreigners.
