Jhargram Lodge Raid: 21 Detained as Police Probe Illegal Activities

JHARGRAM : Acting on a tip-off, District police conducted a major raid on a lodge in Jhargram town on Wednesday, arresting 21 people 13 women and 8 men in connection with suspected illicit activities allegedly being carried out on the premises.
The operation, which targeted Renu Lodge in the heart of Jhargram town, located in the Jangal Mahal region of Jhargram district, was launched following a tip-off received by local police. Allegations had surfaced that illicit activities were being carried out secretly in various lodges across the town.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a large police contingent carried out a surprise raid on the lodge premises. The operation was led by Jhargram Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shamim Biswas, and was accompanied by Uday Shankar Ghosh, Officer-in-Charge of Jhargram Police Station, along with a sizeable police force.
The sudden police action is reported to have caused considerable commotion within the lodge at the time of the operation.
A total of 21 individuals were taken into custody during the raid — comprising 13 women and 8 men. All detained persons have been brought to Jhargram Police Station for questioning.
Police sources have indicated that the operation is not confined to Renu Lodge alone. Investigators are now looking into whether similar alleged activities are being conducted at other lodges located across Jhargram town.
Through the interrogation of those currently detained, authorities have also launched a parallel inquiry to determine whether additional individuals may be involved in the suspected racket.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the specific legal action to be taken against the detainees will be determined only after the investigation concludes.
