Kolkata: South City International School hosted a special Classical Musical Session, bringing together the school’s young musicians for an evening celebrating the richness and diversity of Indian music.

The highlight of the session was a captivating classical fusion group performance by 60 students of South City International School, performed under the group name ‘Taal Tarang’. Mentored by Mr. Arindam Burman, the students presented a vibrant blend of classical musical traditions and contemporary elements, showcasing their dedication, coordination and passion for music.

The performance provided the students with an opportunity to explore the depth of Indian classical music while expressing themselves through a dynamic group presentation. The synchronised performance reflected their extensive preparation and teamwork, while creating an engaging musical experience for the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vishal Bhandari, Principal, South City International School, said, “Music plays an important role in the holistic development of young minds, nurturing creativity, discipline, confidence and emotional expression. The performance by 60 of our students as ‘Taal Tarang’ beautifully reflected their dedication, teamwork and passion for music. Under the mentorship of Mr. Arindam Burman, our students were able to explore classical traditions while presenting them through an exciting fusion format. We are proud of their efforts and hope such opportunities continue to inspire them to pursue their artistic potential.”

Mrs. Mahua Chakraborty, Head of Performing Arts and Marketing, South City International School, said: “Today, 60 of our students from Classes 3 to 11 presented a contemporary classical fusion performance at our school’s cultural festival, organized by Kolkata Music Tradition in collaboration with Eternal Sounds and South City International School. Music is a universal language that deeply resonates with young minds and bridges cultural gaps. To showcase how classical traditions remain dynamic and relatable today, our students blended Indian classical forms with Western elements—starting with Albela Sajan Aayo Re and ending with Garaj Garaj Aayo—combining sarod, flute, and tabla with guitar and drums.”

The session reflected South City International School’s commitment to providing students with opportunities beyond academics and encouraging them to engage with India’s rich cultural and musical heritage.

Through Taal Tarang, the students demonstrated how traditional musical forms can be explored through innovative interpretations while retaining their cultural essence. The performance concluded on an appreciative note, celebrating the young musicians and their collective passion for music.
