Suvendu Adhikari, the chief minister of Bengal, said on Monday that the loss of these sources of water had seriously harmed the ecology and accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of permitting the filling in of 5,000 ponds in Kolkata and the surrounding districts while it was in power.
He made the accusation during a celebration for the repair of two ponds in Kudghat, south Kolkata. Additionally, he urged voters to elect the BJP to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), stating that enhancing public services and protecting the environment required cooperation between the state government and the civic organization.
According to the chief minister, the state administration is working to enhance the environment in highly populated neighborhoods and revitalize neglected metropolitan areas.
According to him, the restoration of the two waterbodies in Kudghat cost about Rs 5.79 crore and Rs 3.59 crore, respectively. According to Adhikari, the ponds used to be in terrible shape, and the nearby inhabitants’ lives were made miserable by the horrible odors.
According to him, their repair will enhance the surrounding environment. He emphasized that people of neighborhoods disregarded in civic planning had an equal right to improved public amenities, adding that the projects will also involve plantations, fish farming, and beautifying the surrounding surroundings.
In addition to naming the two repaired waterbodies “Shiv” and “Shakti,” the chief minister expressed hope that future collaboration between the KMC and the state government would be possible. Additionally, Adhikari stated that the BJP government was attempting to draw in investment and generate jobs in West Bengal. He mentioned earlier in the day the opening of a brand-new five-star hotel in New Town.
