West Midnapore initiative takes care home children and people living alone on a Durga Puja pandal tour, with gifts and a shared mealKharagpur, West Midnapore : Children from several care homes and elderly people living alone were taken to visit a number of Durga Puja pandals in an initiative organised by the West Midnapore District Police and managed by the Kharagpur Town Police Station, so that they too could share in the joy of the festival. The visitors were taken from one pandal to another, giving them a chance to see the decorations and take part in the celebrations that draw crowds across the district every year.Gifts were given to everyone who took part, and a midday meal was arranged for the group. Those present described the day as one of shared moments rather than a formal function. The smiles on the children’s faces and the happiness of the elderly were, for the organisers, the truest measure of the effort. The programme was built on a simple idea: that no one in society should be left out of the celebration. Durga Puja is more than a festival. It stands for love, empathy, and a commitment to standing by one another.By bringing together children from care homes and elderly people who live alone, the initiative sought to include every member of society in the flow of the celebration. Through shared moments, smiles, and a little love, it aimed at building a more humane society.
