Google Updates Fitbit Air and Health App With New Wellness Tracking Features

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 23rd October 2026

Google has announced updates to Fitbit Air and its Google Health app, introducing expanded health monitoring capabilities, improved workout detection and enhancements to its artificial intelligence-powered Health Coach. The changes aim to provide users with more personalised insights into their fitness and overall well-being.

One of the key additions is the Health Guardian feature, which will offer Fitbit Air users access to trends related to blood pressure and insulin resistance through a Google Health Premium subscription. The tools are designed to analyse physiological information over time and generate monthly reports highlighting potential changes in health patterns.

The reports are intended to help users identify trends that may warrant attention and make more informed lifestyle decisions. However, the features are designed for general wellness purposes and are not intended to diagnose medical conditions or replace professional medical advice. Blood pressure estimates should not be treated as substitutes for clinical measurements.

Google is also improving automatic workout detection, with the upgraded system designed to recognise more than 100 types of physical activity. These include strength training, swimming and team sports. The improvements are expected to make activity tracking more accurate and reduce instances in which workouts go unrecorded.

Another area of development is the AI-powered Health Coach. The updated assistant will be better equipped to remember users’ preferences and routines, allowing it to offer more personalised recommendations based on their activity levels and wellness information.

The Google Health app is also expanding its integration with other services, including Apple Health, to help users bring information about fitness, nutrition and health into a more unified platform. The integration is intended to make it easier to review different aspects of personal wellness without switching repeatedly between applications.

Nevertheless, the new features have limitations. Insights related to insulin resistance and blood pressure should not be used to make medical decisions or alter prescribed treatment without consulting a healthcare professional.

With these additions, Google is expanding its focus on preventive wellness and personalised fitness support, while positioning its wearable devices and health app as connected tools for monitoring everyday health trends.
