A dynamic move by South City International School to encourage kids for reading books in the digital era
Before the electronic era, everyday reading was a ritual that almost everyone wanted to gain knowledge. Amongst other things, we have been so preoccupied with social media and the internet that hardly anyone contemplates reading books. Reading a book every day helps you to stimulate your mental activity. Numerous studies have been conducted to understand the benefits of reading. Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short-story writer, poet, screenwriter, and wartime fighter pilot of Norwegian descent. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. Dahl has been called “one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century”.
While there’s always a reason to enjoy and celebrate the amazing books that Roald Dahl wrote, South City International School made a special effort on Roald Dahl Day to organize brilliant activities and exhilarating reading treats! Young kids love listening to stories. When you invest adequate time in storytelling with them, you instil virtues they can carry with them as they grow old. A fun activity involving the students from classes 1 – 2 was curated where ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ was read out to the students during their library classes. The students enacted the various characters from the story to enjoy the whole activity even more. On the other hand, group discussions were held for students of classes 3, 4 & 5 on the various books written by Roald Dahl along with characters and new words coined by him. This activity also involved students making bookmarks based on Roald Dahl’s books.
“You can expect to enhance your knowledge if you just develop the habit of reading books regularly. It might appear boring unless you start, but once you get a grip of reading, you will be thanking yourself for this habit.” said Founder Principal Mr. John Bagul.
