S. Jaishankar Discusses Potent Instruments In Terrorist Toolkit At Important UN Meeting
At a special meeting of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that social media and the internet have evolved into potent instruments in the toolkit of terrorists and militant groups for disseminating propaganda, radicalization, and conspiracies aimed at destabilizing societies.
Regarding the difficulties presented by developing technologies, Mr. Jaishankar stated that blockchain, encrypted message services, and virtual private networks have all presented new difficulties for governing bodies and regulatory agencies.
Despite the UN Security Council’s greatest efforts to address the gravest peril to humanity, he claimed that the worldwide threat of terrorism is increasing and spreading, especially in Asia and Africa.
The United Nations Security Council’s two-day anti-terrorism summit is being held in India (UNSC). The Counter-Terrorism Committee meeting is now taking place in Delhi, and India is the committee’s chair (CTC).
The international community held a minute of silence in honor of the victims and survivors of terrorism, as well as their families while attending the second day of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee meeting.
Mr. Jaishankar also emphasized the use of drones for attacks and the supply of weaponry by organized crime groups and terrorist organizations.
