The 100-Year-Old Doctor Who Is Currently The World’s Oldest Is Still Working

The oldest practicing doctor in the world at 100 years old is an Ohioan who says he has no immediate intentions to retire. Dr. Howard Tucker of Cleveland got their initial designation as the oldest practicing physician in the world in February 2021, when he was 98 years and 231 days old. The physician is still keeping his word that he has no plans to retire, and his wife Sue, who is 89, is still licensed in psychoanalysis. The doctor reveals that he caught COVID-19 shortly after celebrating his 100th birthday in July. Nevertheless, he kept instructing his inmates through Zoom while he was healing.

He said, “I see this Guinness World Records title as a special honor and look upon it as another achievement in a long, fulfilling, and joyful life,” in a statement to Guinness World Records. He went on to say, “I approach every day the same way I did when I first started out in 1947. Every day, I pick up new information from my coworkers and even the residents I teach.”

Howard was inspired to apply for the title of oldest practicing doctor after reading an obituary for a barber who was classified as one of the oldest individuals in the world. Howard saw that, given their similar ages, he could break records on his own. His grandson Austin helped his dad fill out a formal Guinness World Records application. His family members were thrilled when the record was confirmed.
