An Indian Lady Fired By Microsoft Claims The Corporation Has Drastically Reduced Its Hardware Teams
Microsoft started laying off 10,000 workers on January 18 as the firm gets ready for a possible recession. The cutbacks increase the tens of thousands of layoffs that have been announced recently in the technology sector, which has slowed down after experiencing rapid expansion during the pandemic. Microsoft employees who lost their jobs joined the ranks of others who were let go by their employers and turned to social media to spread the bad news and look for employment openings.
An Indian data and applied scientist in Washington, United States, is one of those who lost their job at Microsoft.
She stated in a now-deleted LinkedIn post that “Today’s layoffs at Microsoft have an impact on me and several teams from the hardware side landed on the chopping block within Microsoft.”
“I have a limited amount of time to find a new job because I am on a visa.”
Before she was let go, the Indian employee had worked there for more than four years.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in a memo to staff that less than 5% of the company’s workforce affected layoffs will finish by the end of March, with notices starting on January 18.
Amazon, Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms Inc, which also announced job cuts, said it would eliminate 11,000 positions, while Salesforce Inc, a provider of cloud software, said it would lay off 10% of its 80,000 employees.
According to the outplacement company Challenger, Gray & Christmas, more than 97,000 job cutbacks in the tech industry were announced overall in 2022, the most since the sector experienced 131,000 cuts in that year.
