Argentina Sergio Tomas Massa, the minister of economy, asked for India’s assistance on February 23 in creating software for digital payments under the direction of the National Payments Corporation of India. India’s assistance has been confirmed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Prior to the first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) conference, which will take place in Bengaluru on February 23, Union FM Sitharaman and the Argentinian Minister met. The Ministers discussed the objectives for India’s G20 Presidency as well as Argentinian support for India’s G20 Presidency.
Sitharaman also declared during the meeting that India would continue the momentum started by Argentina during its Presidency on infrastructure objectives, including spending on cities of the future.
Both ministers expressed interest in working closely together to advance India’s G20 objectives, which include bolstering multilateral development banks (MDBs) and financing for climate change.
Bengaluru is the location of the second Finance and Central Bank Deputies Conference under India’s G20 Presidency. On February 22, the gathering got underway.
The first G20 FMCBG meeting will take place over three sessions and address topics like leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for advancing financial inclusion and productivity gains, strengthening multilateral development banks to address common global challenges of the 21st century, and financing for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities of tomorrow, according to an earlier official release.
Before the first G20 Finance Minister and Central Bank Governors meeting, the Union Finance Minister conferred with his Japanese counterpart Shunichi Suzuki on February 23.
The ministers discussed objectives for the G20 Finance Track 2023, per a tweet from the finance ministry’s official account.
The handle also stated in one of the tweets that both ministers anticipated close collaboration between Japan as the G7 Presidency and India as the G20 Presidency on strengthening multilateral development banks (MDBs), debt-related issues, financing cities of the future, and coordinated policy for crypto assets.
The Japanese Minister also pledged his unwavering support for India’s G20 Leadership.
