Awareness Session with Chief Post Master General, WB Circle, GoI held at MCCI
Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised an Awareness Session for exporters on ‘New Initiatives of Indian Postal Service’ on 3 August at MCCI.
The Chief Guest of the Session was Shri Vidhan Chandra Roy, Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, Government of India.
Shri Anil Kumar, Post Master General (M& BD), West Bengal Circle, Government of India informed about a host of schemes that have been driving its revenue towards a growth trajectory. He said the department of Post have earned Rs 450 crore from Saving Bank Accounts, Rs 299 crore from parcel delivery Rs 9.21 crore from issuance of Aadhar and Rs 2.11 lakh from passport issuance.
He said the network of 60,000 post offices in India of which 12,000 were in West Bengal created a huge network, which not only facilitated delivery of all types of goods across the country but also exports under the Dakghar Niryat Kendra scheme. This scheme facilitated exports of even the most smallest item from any parts of country especially from remote corners and even item like gangajaal are being exported.
Post offices are at present providing services of all custom procedures and even facilitating GST refund for exports through their channel. and are catering to 213 countries.
The department of Post is at present catering to 213 countries and have been doing e- commerce with 38 countries of the Asia Pacific region, Kumar said.
“A significant contributor to this is the country’s exports performance which is going strong two years in a row despite strong headwinds”, said Shri Mahesh Chandra Keyal, Chairman, Council on Foreign Trade, MCCI.
Shri Keyal further added that Dakghar Niryat Kendra (DNK) is one such step in paving the way towards facilitating country’s small exporters. It can open a whole new horizon for the exporters, especially in remote areas to scale up their businesses. The New FTP Policy has focused on ‘One District One Hub’. We feel that strengthening our export procedures would go a long way to achieve this.
