Ban mahotsav celebrated

Ban mahotsav is an annual tree-planting and afforestation festival celebrated in the month of July. The state government of West Bengal celebrates Ban mahotsav with the onset of the monsoon every year in the month of July.


Trees and forests play a very crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Ban mahotsav helps to spread awareness about forest conservation, greening and sustainability.
In Newtown, the Ban Mahotsav was celebrated on 14th July 2022 with the gracious presence of Sri Debasish Sen, Chairman NKDA and MD, WBHIDCO.. The event started at 2 pm with sapling plantation by Sri Sen, along with the officers of the WBHIDCO and NKDA. “This year we are concentrating on roadside and canalside plantation. We hope to plant 10,000 trees”, said Sri Sen. Approx. 15 trees were planted in the boundary of the Aircraft Museum, Newtown.
A lot of enthusiasm for the event was observed in the local people. The visitors to the Aircraft museum also joined the celebrations. Similar plantation initiatives were taken up by HIDCO and NKDA in different parts of Newtown throughout the day with active and spontaneous participation of the local residents.
