In the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, i.e., COP-26, held in Glasgow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Panchamrit, i.e., five points, on behalf of India.

India will reach its non-fossil energy goal of 500 gigabytes by 2030.
India will meet 50% of its energy needs with renewable energy by 2030.
India will reduce 1 billion metric tonnes of total projected carbon emissions by 2030.
India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 45% by 2030.
Target to achieve net zero emissions by 2070.

Ethanol blending

achieved the ethanol blending target of November 2022, 5 months ahead of schedule.E-20 fuel launched with 20% ethanol blending in petrol on April 1, 2023.

Renewable energy

Four times the increase in installed capacity of renewable energy since 2014 ,1900% increase in the installed capacity of solar power since 2014.The 2030 target of meeting 40% of installed power capacity from non-fossil energy sources was achieved in November 2021 itself.The National Hydrogen Mission was announced, and a pilot project plant started in Assam.

2014- 2022        42% increase in number of tigers

India’s forest cover is expanding, as is the population of lions, tigers, leopards, elephants, and rhinos. India accounts for only 2.4 percent of the world’s land area but contains 8 percent of all known global biodiversity. India has made strides in wildlife and environmental protection over the last nine years, including the recent birth of cheetahs after a 75-year hiatus. 75% of the world’s tiger population is found in India. A recent report on the status of tigers in India revealed that the tiger population has increased from 2226 to 3167. As a result, the number of tigers has increased by 42% since 2014. India is the only country in the world with Asiatic lions, and their numbers have increased in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) to further conservation efforts for seven big cats: tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar, and puma.

Record increase in the number of wetlands in India

India has now designated 75 sites of international importance as Ramsar sites, covering an area of 1.33 million hectares across the country. From 1982 to 2013, a total of 26 Ramsar sites were added to the list. Between 2014 and 2023, the country added 49 new wetlands to the Ramsar list. In 2022, a total of 28 sites were designated as Ramsar sites.

FAME India: New India’s Green Vehicles

The FAME India programme was launched to promote electric and hybrid vehicles, with 7210 e-buses approved until February 2023.

Over 280 million litres of fuel were saved, reducing India’s reliance on imported oil.Carbon emissions have been reduced by more than 41 crore kg.The scheme’s second phase began on April 1, 2019, and will last until March 20, 2024. The budget includes a provision of Rs 10,000 crore.

FAME India Phase-II will help to stimulate demand and build charging infrastructure for 7090 e-buses, 5 lakh e-three-wheelers, 55 thousand e-four-wheel passenger cars, and 10 lakh e-two-wheelers.

Continuous work to keep the soil healthy

In the last nine years, the country has worked continuously to keep the soil alive. The focus has been on five main things to save the soil.

First : how to make the soil chemical-free

Second: how to save the organisms that live in the soil, which are called soil organic matter in technical language.

Third: How to maintain the moisture of the soil and how to increase the availability of water.

Fourth: How to remove the damage caused to the soil due to less groundwater.

Fifth: How to stop the continuous erosion of the soil due to the reduction in the area of forests.
