DA Protests, Byelection, Central Agencies, And ARI Are On Bengal’s Electoral Menu
The political parties in West Bengal are preoccupied with their outreach initiatives aimed at rural elections, but there are also more recent problems that are being debated in the state.
Anubrata Mondal, a well-known state Trinamool leader, was transported to the state capital on March 7 night by ED officials as part of an ongoing probe into cattle smuggling.
The latest event has provided the state’s opposition with yet another chance to criticize the ruling party on the political scene. On March 2, Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool party, made a political observation while mentioning forthcoming elections.
The Trinamool representative Firhad Hakim stated on March 7 that the people, not the “agency raj,” will have the final say. In a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Trinamool, and the other eight parties also discussed the function of federal agencies.
Trinamool lost the position in a byelection for the Sagardighi legislative assembly constituency after having won it in three straight elections. According to Banerjee, this occurred as a result of an immoral alliance, in which the Left-supported Congress candidate got a transfer of BJP votes.
The Trinamool Party’s vote share has decreased from 50.95% to 34.94% in just two years. After this development, Banerjee declared that Trinamool’s alliance for the 2024 (elections) is with the people – Trinamool versus the remainder, in terms of Bengal. Political rivals of the Trinamool saw this development as a shift in voter sentiment and anticipate surprises in the forthcoming rural elections.
The Trinamool has asked a few senior party leaders to investigate what truly happened in the constituency, which has the majority of voters from the minority community, despite the fact that the by-election is undoubtedly not representative of the voters in the entire state.
A group of state government workers in Bengal is demonstrating and calling for an increase in the dearness allowance as another issue in the country’s politics right now. However, the chief minister has made it clear that what is being given is all that the state is able to provide. However, the opposition parties have been outspoken about the requests of the workers.
There have also been reports of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in the province. Banerjee stated that 19 children had perished as a result of the infection while speaking to lawmakers on March 6. However, 13 of those who passed away had co-morbidities. Even the leaves of health officials were canceled as a result of the state’s announced steps. However, the opposition emphasized the shortcomings of the state’s healthcare system.
